Spring Flowers and Fourth Grade Buddies

We enjoyed spending time with our fourth grade buddies today.  We worked with our buddies to
make a variety of spring flowers.  Our buddies shared a video with us that
explained the parts of a flower and we even acted out those parts.  What a great morning!

Beach Day In Our Classroom

Today was the first day of spring.  Our class earned Beach Day for our positive and respectful
behavior.  We wore our shorts, tank tops, flip flops and sunglasses.  We even brought beach blankets and beach towels to read on, write on and even eat our snacks on.   During math we continued our work on Geometry by working in small cooperative groups to design and construct one piece of our
Beach Shape Mural.  In writing we worked on problems we might have at the beach, why they are problems and how they could be solved.  We all enjoyed our sunny Beach Day.

Leprechauns

We have been reading stories about leprechauns and Saint Patrick's Day this week.
We decided to build traps to see if we could catch a leprechaun.  Students had fun planning and
building their leprechaun traps.  The children were very clever to add things that might trick a
leprechaun into going into their trap.  Kindergartners even wrote about where they would hide their gold if they were a leprechaun.  Today kindergarten students took their traps home to set them up.  I can't wait to hear on Monday if any leprechauns were caught in the traps.  Good luck kindergartners.

 

 

 

 

Geometry

Kindergarten mathematicians love geometry!  If they tell you they are doing high school math they are talking about our unit on geometry.  Right now we are working on two dimensional shapes such as a square, triangle, circle, rectangle, oval, and diamond (or rhombus).  Students are exploring the characteristics of each shape and discovering ways to make shapes using different materials.
