Ants, Ants, Ants

We found so many ants during our investigation today.  Kindergarten students crushed up fruit loops to attract ants so we could observe them.  Well, it worked!  The ants were very busy trying to carry pieces of fruit loops, many larger than the ants themselves.  We loved watching the ants coming out of their holes to gather fruit loops.

Busy, Busy, Bees

Our class has learned a great deal about bees this past week!  Kindergarteners learned about some of the equipment used by bee keepers as well as many facts about bees.  Dressing up as bee keepers was a highlight.  We searched for bees in the woods and flower gardens around our school and CHMS for over an hour on Friday.  Unfortuantely, we didn't see a single bee.  We plan to check again next week.

Dragonflies

Kindergarten students know a lot about insects!  One of our favorite insects is the dragonfly.   We were amazed to find out that dragonflies are born and live underwater until they are ready to become an adult.  Did you know that adult dragonflies catch their prey while they are flying?  An adult dragonfly's favorite food is mosquitos.  Thank you, dragonflies!
