Dance Party Celebration

Yesterday afternoon our class had a dance party on the patio of the school.  The music was great, and the bubble machine was a hit!  We are awesome dancers!

Beautiful Spring Weather

The weather has been so nice these past two days.  We have spent a great deal of time outside.  First thing in the morning, we ran laps on the playground.  We brought our writing folders and tools outside.  It was exciting to do our writing on the ground.  We even had snack and lunch in different spots on the playgrounds and sidewalk.  Our class loves spring and being outside!

Tapping Trees

Even though it was a half-day today, we were busy this morning!  Yesterday we watched and discussed a couple of videos about how to identify maple trees in the winter.  We also looked at all the tools and materials needed to tap trees.  As part of our How-to unit in writing, we figured out the steps for tapping a tree.  Some students chose to write How-to Tap a Tree books.  Today, we went through the steps as we tapped our first tree.  It was definitely a collaborative effort.  We can't wait to collect our sap and boil it down.

Force and Motion Activities

Welcome Back!  We were all excited to be back together today.  Our morning was filled with interesting force and motion activities.  We played air hockey with ping pong balls at our tables.  The donated bottles were used to build bottle rockets.  Yes, we were able to touch the ceiling with our rockets.  In the gym, we did a ball toss game.  We threw different size balls into crates set up at various distances.  Other fun activities included trying to move toy cars, rocks, cotton balls, ping pong balls, blocks, and paperclips using air and/or "finger flicks".  We made some interesting observations about the amount of force needed to move some objects compared to others.  A big thank you to everyone for the plastic bottles you sent in.  They were very useful in our activities.
