Colors of Fall

Kindergarten scientists are very observant!  Students searched and found a variety of colors in nature.  It was interesting to discover the shades of orange, green, red, grey, purple, ..., all around our school grounds. Everywhere we looked, there were unexpected colors.  We were able to match many items we found outside in nature to color swatches.  We are going to repeat this activity again in a couple of weeks and see if we notice any changes.

Fall Nature Scavenger Hunt

Fall is right around the corner, so we decided to hunt for things we might find outside in the garden and forest at this time of year.  Kindergarten students were quite persistent in their hunt and searched high and low.  We found everything on our list, even the elusive maple seed (helicopter).  It was definitely an old and brown seed, but we were still excited that we could check it off our list.

Painting Project

Today we painted gourds outside.  Everyone worked carefully to make their painted gourd unique.  It was fun to see all the different ways kindergarten students chose to decorate their gourds.

Stuffy and Movie Day

Today our class had a stuffy and movie day to celebrate the great job students have done following school expectations.  We had quite a variety of stuffed animals visit our classroom today.  There were dogs, tigers, cheetahs, dinosaurs, and other assorted animals.  Our stuffies read with us and even joined us to explore math materials.  We watched a Wild Kratts' video about Asian Longhorned Beetles.  It was a great day!

Our first monarch butterfly!

The chrysalis was dark when we arrived this morning.  We could see some orange and black inside the chrysalis.  Within a short time, we saw a butterfly on the branch.  It happened so quickly!  We let the monarch butterfly rest for most of the day, and then we released it at the edge of the woods.  What an exciting day!  We can't wait to see our next one emerge.
