Thanksgiving Turkey Project

Kindergarten students created turkeys with their fourth grade buddies.  They were able to add certain parts and colors based on answers to questions about themselves.  For example, if a student said they had siblings then they put yellow feet on their turkey.  Red feet indicated a child had no siblings.  Each child was instructed to add the same number of feathers as their age.  The partner teams had a fun time with this project.  We are all so impressed with the way they collaborate and enjoy each other.

Autumn is such a beautiful time in Vermont!  We have enjoyed many books about fall and the changes that are taking place.  Our class decided to do a rewrite of Leaf Man, by Lois Ehlert.
Students collected leaves and created their own Leaf Man traveling through Richmond.

Fourth Grade Buddies

Ms. Darby's fourth grade class is our buddy class.  We will be connecting with them throughout the school year.  We have enjoyed hiking, playing games, reading books and doing projects with them.
Thursday, October 11 our buddy teams made beautiful fall leaves out of tissue paper, construction paper and glue.  Each fourth grader and kindergarten buddy wrote a poem together to accompany their leaves.  Fourth graders typed up the poems.  The poems and leaves are now on display in the RES library.

A big thank you to our parent volunteers who helped chaperone our field trip to
the Audubon.  The weather cooperated and we all enjoyed our time outside.  Students
noticed many signs of Autumn.  As they hiked through the woods they collected
seeds and found insects and other animals hiding under logs and leaves.  A
highlight was the discovery of a 7 inch spotted salamander.  In the field
students used nets to sweep for insects.  The Audubon teachers helped us discover
many ways that plants and animals get ready for winter.

Crazy Hair Day

Our entire school earned Crazy Hair Day on Friday, September 21.  It was an exciting day!

We want to thank all of our families for coming to Open House.  We loved showing you around our classroom and school.  We hope you enjoyed the evening.

Our Gingerbread Hunt

Kindergarten classes baked gingerbread cookies on Thursday, September 13.
On Friday we went to the kitchen to pick up our cookies.  They were missing!
We hunted inside and outside the school.  We looked everywhere.  Many adults
in our school helped us look.  Finally, our principal, Mr. Berry, found the cookies and
returned them to us.
