We just began our new science unit on Force and Motion. After brainstorming what we already know about force and motion we went outside to test some of our hypotheses. We did a lot of pushing and pulling of sleds and swings. We noticed the difference between pushing an empty sled and pushing a sled with someone on it. Kindergarten students also discovered that pushing someone down a hill was easier than pulling someone up. We even tested pushing gently vs. pushing with a great deal of force. We will continue to plan, conduct investigations, and analyze data. It will be exciting to see the discoveries they make.

3-D Geometry
Students have been busy describing, identifying, and comparing 3-D shapes in math. These mathematicians looked closely at several 3-D constructions and then built replicas. They also compared and matched the faces of different 3-D shapes. A "face" in geometry is the special word for the side of a block.

Outdoor Science Exploration
We created snow marble runs outside today. Students did a great job problem solving and came up with several successful ways for marbles to travel a path or maze. We also did science experiments involving ice and salt. We made predictions about what would happen to the ice when we poured salt on top. Students shared examples of real life experiences involving salt and ice on driveways, sidewalks, and roads. It was interesting to see the way our ice reacted to the salt. Some ice became pitted and others became slushy. We also added liquid watercolor to our ice experiments. Colors mixed and traveled in cracks and crevices. We love outdoor learning!

Snow Motion-Day 1
We had a fantastic day at Cochran's! Thank you to all the adults who helped on the slopes today.
Thanks Mr. G for organizing this incredible activity. Kindergartners had a wonderful time and can't wait until next Tuesday.
