Silly Hair Day
Monday, November 2, 2020
Our scholars have earned one of their favorite PBIS celebrations by following our three school-wide expectations:
RESpect Yourself RESpect Others RESpect Your Environment
On Monday, Nov. 2nd, scholars and staff are encouraged to come to school with crazy hair!
We have been busy investigating pumpkins this week. On Wednesday, kindergarten students had a great time measuring the height of their pumpkins, predicting and measuring the circumference, and making observations about their pumpkins. Students predicted and tested whether their pumpkin would sink or float. They were quite surprised to find out that pumpkins float. Today, students counted pumpkin seeds. Another surprise, each of our pumpkins had more than 100 seeds. A big thank you to the Rohlins for donating pumpkins to our class.
RES is having a special "Used Book Sale" this year! Please be on the lookout for a packet of information coming home with your child on Friday, October 30th, and take some time to read it over! You'll see some exciting news about our first ever RES Read-a-Thon, our "Book Sale Cart" and a special school-wide celebration! During the month of November, while our RES student readers set and reach reading goals, they'll also be doing community service! Money raised from this special event will all be used to support the students and families of our RES school community.

Hello Kindergarten Families,
As you all know due to COVID-19, kindergarteners are required to wear masks while at school unless they are actively eating or drinking. We need your help in ensuring that we keep all students, staff, and community members safe. Here are some reminders and updates regarding masks.
Some students are coming to school wearing the same mask each day. Please make sure masks are being washed daily. Please send at least 3 clean masks every day with your student. Students are asked to change their mask when it is dirty, wet, or sneezed in.
If your child sucks on their mask, please send MANY clean masks with your child. Please know that if your child constantly sucks on their mask, they will be asked constantly to change their mask. If you can support your child with finding a different alternative, it would be helpful and safer for all.
Please check the fit of your child’s mask. If it is loose and falls below their nose, it is not a good fit. We are trying to make sure that each child has a properly fitted mask to ensure the safety of all.
If your child comes home with a mask that was given to them by an adult, please add this to your student’s mask supply. Please DO NOT RETURN THESE MASKS!
We thank you for supporting your student and your help in keeping the entire Richmond community safe.

We read the book The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiana. In the story, Spookley, the square pumpkin, was different than the other pumpkins. The other round pumpkins were unkind to him. During a big storm, Spookley saves the other pumpkins. At the end of the story, the pumpkin patch is full of many different pumpkins of various sizes, shapes, and colors. We discussed how people are similar to the pumpkins in the story. We come in different sizes, shapes, and colors. We are all unique and special. Our class painted pumpkins that are as unique as we are.
It is so much fun to practice forming letters with different materials. Today our kindergarten class used Wikki Stix. In case you have never played with Wikki Stix, they are waxed pieces of yarn. We had a great time bending and forming them to make the letters we are studying. Great job, Kindergartners!
Today was Pajama Day in our class. Students enjoyed wearing their special pajamas to school. They even drew and wrote about themselves and their pajamas.
We couldn't resist the beautiful weather on Thursday. We read books, ate lunch, and had an extra recess outside. We loved the sun, breeze, and falling leaves!
Mrs. Gilbar’s class earned Pajama Day!
Our class has been working hard to follow school rules and expectations. We will be having a class celebration of their hard work on Friday, October 16! Scholars can wear their pajamas to school on this day. They should also wear shoes or sneakers (no slippers please).
Here are some of our completed projects. Students sketched and made a model of a pet. They created a home for their pet and included what their pet needed to survive. What a creative group!
Check out our class working on their pet homes. Earlier in the day, they made pets out of model magic. Then they made sketches of where their pet would live and what they would need to survive. This is part of our science unit on Organisms. Stay tuned for a glimpse at our finished work next week.
