Clean Up, Green Up

Our class has been talking and writing about ways we can make the world better.  One topic that has come up often is that picking up trash would help the world.  Children have mentioned that trash can be dangerous for animals and people.  They said that plants may not be able to grow if trash is covering the ground.  Kindergarten scholars also don't like the way trash looks on the ground.  We knew that Earth Day was April 22 and that Green Up Day in Vermont is Saturday, May 2.  Today we put on gloves and picked up trash around our school and playground.  We were surprised at how much we found.  Tomorrow we plan on sorting our trash to see if some of what we collected can be recycled.

Africa

We want to thank everyone who has made it possible for us to learn about music and dance from different countries in Africa.  We love dancing with Jeh Kulu.  The movement and drumming were wonderful!  We are excited to dance with them again tomorrow.  Our companion workshop to prepare for our Flynn trip to hear the African Children's Choir was also an engaging experience.  We were very quick to learn our part in the "call and response" activities.  It was amazing that we could learn an entire song with movements in such a short time.  We are looking forward to our trip to the Flynn on Friday.

African Sunrise or Sunset

On Monday, April 13 we began our study of Africa.  We learned about the continent of Africa and animals that live in certain parts.  We created watercolor paintings with silhouettes of animals and trees.  Our beautiful art work is now hanging in the halls.  What a fun start to our study of Africa!
