Great Day in Kindergarten

Kindergarten scholars enjoyed their snow play day and time with their fourth grade buddies.

In the morning kindergartners played on the hill and in the field between RES and CHMS.
During snow play time we used spray bottles filled with colored water to color the snow.  We built with snow block makers and went sledding on the hill.  We were very happy that the weather cooperated. What fun!

In the afternoon our class met with our fourth grade buddies.  Together students designed and began the building of large snowmen the size of kindergarten students.   Fourth graders carefully measured their kinderbuddies in order to create snowmen that were the correct size.  Buddy teams looked at books about snowmen and decided on materials they might use to dress and decorate their own snowmen.  We are looking forward to getting together with fourth graders again next week to finish this cooperative project.

Fundraiser for Boston Children's Hospital

Doctor Brooke White, a Richmond resident and parent of students in our school, is planning a fundraising event for Boston Children’s Hospital on March 5th from 4-7pm.  There are children in our class/school and the Richmond community who benefit from the services provided by Boston Children's Hospital.

The event on March 5th consists of a family friendly dance party at Arts Riot in Burlington.  There will be kids activities, a large silent auction and a RES student will be DJing alongside professional DJ (D Jay Baron).  The emcee is Johnny Utah from 99.9 the Buzz.  Brooke is also running the Boston Marathon this year in order to raise money for Boston Children’s Hospital.  She is also doing this event so the many VT families that face difficult situations requiring the care of BCH know they have the support of their community.  There will be multiple VT families whose children receive care at BCH in attendance at the event.  Here are the links to the event and tickets can be bought in advance.

Health Class with Nurse B.

On Tuesday, Nurse Brandsletter (Nurse B.) came into our kindergarten classroom to teach us about germs and how to stay healthy.  Nurse B. taught us about the importance of washing our hands.  One of our favorite parts was when she gave us a special lotion to use before we washed our hands.  After we washed our hands she used a blue light to show us the parts we missed.  The parts we missed turned white! She also taught us a song to sing while we washed our hands.

“The Scrubby Bear Washing Song”
Wet,Wet, Wet your hands,
Use a squirt of soap,
Scrub, scrub, scrub, scrub,
Rinse and dry them both.

(To get hands really clean you have to sing it 3 times.)
