Office Space

Kindergarten students were very excited to get their "office folders" today.  These special folders have letters, numbers and sight words such as the and is.  Students find these folders to be a helpful tool and private work space.  They did an awesome job using the folders at writing time today.

RES Used Book Sale 2018

**Still have donations you’d like to share!
Bring them to RES!
Mark your calendars, and remember your quarters!
:) Thanks!

Dear Families,

It’s that time of year again!  RES is holding its Annual Used Book Sale!  On Thursday, December 6th, children in grades PreK-4 will have the opportunity to come to the Art Room and purchase gently used children’s books for $.25 each!  It’s an exciting day at school, and it’s been a yearly treat to see the faces of the children as they gather new stories to read and share with their families!

We are still welcoming donations of gently used books (children’s
picture books AND chapter books).
Please check in at the front office, and then bring your boxes and
bags of books directly down to Maribeth Berliner’s classroom -Room 35.
This sale is a great opportunity to clean out your collections
before the holidays, and keep your books in the hands of our
community’s children!

Money raised from this sale will be used to help support students
within our RES learning community, and a portion of the money
will be used to purchase some new gift books for the
University of Vermont Pediatric Unit.

Thank you for your support with this project!

Best,

Maribeth Berliner, M.Ed.
Gr.4 Teacher, RES

*Any questions about the sale? You can call school and ask for Maribeth Berliner,

Kindergarten Potluck Dinner

We had a wonderful turnout for our Kindergarten Potluck dinner!  It was nice to see so many families
sitting down for a yummy meal and getting a chance to visit with each other.  The stone soup was a huge hit!  Mr. White did end up with the largest stone in his bowl of soup.  A big thank you to everyone for bringing food and for coming to the Potluck dinner.  It was great to see everyone.

Stone Soup

Kindergarten students were very busy cutting vegetables and preparing stone soup Thursday morning.  They did a great job making stone soup to serve at the Kindergarten Potluck that evening.
Just like in Pete Seeger's book and song "Stone soup is what you need when you have some friends to feed.  Step right up with what you got and put it in the big soup pot."

Leaf People in Richmond, an online class book

Check out the new book we just made with an app called My Story.  First we read Lois Ehlert's book, Leaf Man.  Then we created our own leaf people and designed things they could fly over in Richmond.  We took photos of our work, added our voices and the writing.
We love our online book and hope you do as well!

Barber Farm Field Trip

Our field trip was amazing!  We enjoyed volunteering our potato harvesting skills at Barber Farm on Friday, September 21.  Kindergarten students picked hundreds of pounds of potatoes to
be given away to those in need.  We were excited to have this opportunity to do something to help others.  A big thank you to Charlie at Barber farm and to all of our volunteers.  We appreciated your help.

Potato Harvest Field Trip

  Potato Harvest
      Field Trip

Our kindergarten class is going on a field trip to
Barber Farm in Jericho on Friday, September 21.

Barber Farm, a non-profit, is dedicated to growing and giving away vegetables to Vermonters in need. We will help harvest potatoes on Friday morning so that they can be shared with those in need.

This field trip is a wonderful way for students to make a difference in their community.  This field trip relates to our Social Studies curriculum (Our Caring School) and to our Science curriculum (Organisms).

There is no cost for the field trip and we will be riding the bus back and forth from our school.

School Garden and Writing

We have a school garden shared by Camel's Hump Middle School and our school.   Our class took a walk to the school garden to explore what was growing.  We found sunflowers, tomatoes, onions, lettuce and mint.  We enjoyed tasting the cherry tomatoes.  A few of us even tasted the mint.  They were quite delicious.  After we visited the garden we took our clipboards and paper to the outdoor classroom to write about the garden.  What a great day to write outside!

Makerspace

Did you know that we have a wonderful space in our school where we can explore, create, build and take apart things?  Our RES Makerspace is full of materials for us to use.  Thank you Mrs. Rankin for giving us a tour today and explaining how the Makerspace can be used.   Also, thank you for creating such a great space.   A big thank you to everyone who donated materials.  We appreciate it all.

Reading with a Partner

Our focus during reading today was on reading with a partner.  Students enjoyed sitting side-by side or "EEKK" (elbow-to elbow and knee-to-knee).  The book was placed right in the middle so both kindergartners could see it.  Then these amazing readers even practiced taking turns reading their books.
