Pumpkin Investigations

Pumpkin activities were the focus of the day on Friday. We used our science and math skills to investigate pumpkins. We counted lines on pumpkins, made observations about the look and feel of pumpkins, and measured the height of our pumpkins. Students made predictions about whether our pumpkins would sink or float. Most students thought the smallest pumpkin would float and the others would sink.  Kindergarten scientists were thrilled to discover that even our biggest pumpkin floated (and splashed water on some of us.)  When we went outside to begin our experiments, we noticed that our large tub of water was empty.  It was great seeing students working cooperatively to refill our tub.  Everyone took turns filling buckets and emptying them into the tub.  Great job, Kindergarteners.

We want to thank the Conant Farm and the Rohlins for donating pumpkins for our activities.  We appreciate your support.

On Monday, we will be cutting open our pumpkins and counting the seeds in each pumpkin.  Does a small pumpkin have as many seeds as a big pumpkin?  Kindergarten scientists will also investigate the life cycle of a pumpkin.

What fun!

Happy Math = Happy Kids

Our district digital learning leader, Shaun Langevin, came to our class this morning.  He introduced us to a new app on our iPads called Happy Numbers.  We loved the program!  Students were excited to play a variety of games.  We can't wait for Mr. Langevin to come back to our classroom and work with us again. Thank you, Mr. Langevin.

Visit with Nollie and Mr. Rector

We had two very special visitors on Friday. Mr. Rector brought Nollie, his therapy dog, to our classroom. He explained her job and told us lots of interesting things about Nollie. Kindergarten students asked lots of questions and were excited to have a chance to pet Nollie. We were impressed at how well Nollie followed school rules. She was calm and respectful. Thank you, Mr. Rector, for bringing Nollie in for a visit. We can't wait for both of you to return for another visit.

Gingerbread Cookies

Kindergarten students rolled, cut out, and decorated gingerbread cookies in the cafeteria this morning.
They can't wait to eat them tomorrow.  The cookies look so yummy!
