Sunny Days in Kindergarten

We had a wonderful week!  It was hot and sunny but the ice cream celebration earlier this week was a cool treat.  We are proud of ourselves and everyone in our school for earning ice cream day for positive behavior.

Kindergarten Pajama and Stuffed Animal Day

Kindergarten students earned pajama and stuffed animal day.  They have earned many links and turned on lots of light bulbs in recognition of their positive behavior  We know what it means to be respectful to ourselves, others and the environment.  Our stuffed animals joined us in the classroom today.  We wrote about them, read to them, danced with them, taught them yoga and even took them out to recess. Pajama and stuffed animal day is a wonderful way to celebrate our positive behavior and end our first full week of school.

Sorting Buttons in Math

How many ways can you sort a handful of buttons?  Kindergarten mathematicians decided to sort their buttons by colors, sizes, number of holes and "shiny & not shiny".  We will continue to explore sorting using a wide variety of materials.   Scholars will also talk about the different attributes they can use to sort.

Mrs. Gilbar's Class Schedule

I have attached a link to our class schedule.   It is a general schedule for the year.  Sometimes changes are made to our schedule if needed.  At the beginning of the year our reading and writing workshops and math times are much shorter.  As the year progresses the amount of time we spend increases.  In the beginning we are spending a great deal of time playing get to know you games. learning school rules, exploring our classroom and materials, etc.  Throughout the year we have many movement breaks each day.  They are not outlined in the schedule but are an important part of our school day.  Students have already learned several yoga poses and mindfulness activities.  They particularly like our mindfulness activity where we "freeze" our body and then "melt" one part at a time.

Second day of kindergarten

Students arrived full of energy and excitement!  We had another fun day!  These children are athletes, artists, mathematicians, readers and writers.  They are also kind, respectful and caring.  What a lovely group of children.

First Day of School August 30, 2017

What a great beginning to the school year!  Kindergarten students had fun exploring in the classroom and playing with classmates.  We spent time learning expectations for the playground and cafeteria, as well as the classroom.  Scholars were excited about earning "links" for demonstrating positive and respectful behavior.  Thank you families for sharing your children with me.  We are off to a wonderful
start.
