Open House

Dear Families,

It was wonderful to see so many families at Open House last night.  Thank you for attending.  Students have been excited for days to show you their classroom and school.  They loved being your "tour guides" and showing you all the work they have done, as well as all the people they know in our school.  I appreciate your coming to our special evening and supporting our young scholars.

Notes from our FOCUS group:

Open House Dinner and Bake Sale
Farm to School will be sponsoring a pasta dinner at the RES Open House.  Families are invited to join this community event in the cafeteria from 5:15 - 6pm on both evenings.  Having dinner at school is a chance to check out the cafeteria AND avoid cooking on this busy evening! Dinner will be  $5 per person or $20 max per family and the funds raised will support our Farm to School organization.  The dinner menu includes pasta with several sauce choices, salad and bread!  Treats will also be on sale, sponsored by FOCUS!

Kindergarten Geologists

Our Geology unit really does rock!  Our class has been collecting rocks from a variety of places. We dug up rocks in the field between Camel's Hump Middle School and our school. We even found rocks in the school garden and on our playground. We have been comparing rocks looking for similarities and differences. Kindergarten scholars are fascinated by rocks.  They are making many observations and discoveries about rocks.

Week 2 in Kindergarten

It was a short but busy week in our classroom.  We all had a lot of fun.  We continued working on our geology unit.  Students started their rock collections.  They examined their first 2 rocks carefully and made scientific observations which they recorded in their geology notebooks.  During math we continued to explore different math materials including tiles, plastic bears, interlocking cubes and buttons.  Our class loves math!  We have been reading different versions of the gingerbread man and discussing how the stories are the same and different.  Everyone enjoyed sponge painting gingerbread people and decorating them.

Math Exploration in Kindergarten

Our first week went very well.  On Friday students explored pattern blocks and unifix cubes.  They learned rules for using these math materials.  Everyone was focused on discovering different ways to build and create with the materials.  These scholars couldn't wait to share what they had made.  I look forward to next week and the enthusiasm they bring to all that we do.
