The weather cooperated and we had a wonderful Wellness Day today! Our activities included jump roping, limbo, straw walk, balloon walk, hike on the nature trail, juggling, making smoothies, and several other fun outdoor activities. Thank you Mrs. Riell for organizing such a great event. At the end of the day Mrs. Riell rode in a cart pulled by teachers and parents. Mrs. Riell is retiring this year and this is her last Wellness Day at RES.

Audubon Nature Center - Insect Investigation
During our field trip to the Audubon Nature Center kindergarten students observed and investigated insects in a pond, field and forest. We scooped up dragonfly nymphs with our nets at the pond. It was interesting to see how different the dragonfly nymph (larva stage) looked from the adult dragonfly. At the field we found many insects including young grasshoppers and leafhoppers. In the forest we played a game where we sorted plastic creatures. We were able to figure out which ones were insects and which ones were not.

Mills Riverside Park field trip
Thursday, May 2 was a beautiful day for a field trip to Mills Riverside
Park. Kindergarten students and their fourth grade buddies enjoyed the
weather, outdoor activities and each other. Kinderbuddies played soccer
together, hiked, jump roped, explored the surroundings, and blew
bubbles. During our hike we discovered many wild flowers in bloom. The
field trip was a fun way to celebrate our year together and our friendship.

Kinderbuddies 2012-2013
Each
week, we gather with our Fourth grade buddies to work on reading and
writing, but, more importantly, to build a relationship centered on
establishing RES as a kind and caring community of learners. Tonight,
at the RES school board meeting, Mr. Berry is planning to share our
year-long collaboration with the members of the RES School Board as an
example of the community at Richmond Elementary School.
Ms. Darby and I are so proud of the work our scholars share each week and
the relationships that have been fostered by this collaboration.

Kindergarten Authors' Share
Kindergarten students were excited to share their writing and reading with their families and other guests on Wednesday morning. They read books that they wrote and illustrated themselves as well as books by other authors. The children were proud of their efforts and thrilled to share their work with such an appreciative audience. We want to thank all of our guests for coming in and listening to our books.
